Understanding AMD Statuses & Timing
AMDY assigns a result to every answered call. Results appear in the AMD log file and alongside your call recordings.
Core results
| Result | Meaning | Sent to an agent? |
|---|---|---|
HUMAN |
A live person answered | Yes |
MACHINE / AUDIO |
An answering machine or voicemail greeting | No |
FAS / FASAMD |
False Answer Supervision — the carrier reported "answered" but no real person was on the line | No |
Only HUMAN calls are routed to your agents (via the HUMAN,HUMAN container setting).
Other results you may see
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
honeypot |
A known spam-trap line |
google voice |
A Google Voice voicemail |
fake am |
A synthetic or spoofed answering machine |
connection error |
AMDY couldn't reach its service in time — see Connection problems |
processing error |
The service was reachable but couldn't classify the call — see Connection problems |
NO AUDIO |
Call audio never reached AMDY — a firewall / RTP issue, see Connection problems |
HANGUP AUDIO_TIMEOUT |
Call dropped while waiting for AMDY to respond — usually outbound to port 2700 blocked at the firewall, see Connection problems |
Machine subtypes
For a machine, the AMD log also shows which kind of greeting it was, for example VERIZONAMD, CUSTOMVMAMD or CALLGUARDIPHONEAMD (iPhone call screening). Every subtype ends in AMD and is handled the same way: it is a machine and does not go to an agent. The full list with what each one means is in the API reference.
Coming with the next detection model: FWDVMTONEAMD will report as VERIZONAMD, and PLVMSFORAMD as PLVMSAMD. Six new subtypes are added: YOUMAILAMD, FASRECLINEAMD, ALLSTATEBLKAMD, HIYASCRNAMD, NOMOROBOAMD and SMARTBLKAMD. If your reports count specific subtypes, update them for these names. Routing does not change.
Detection timing
| Phase | Window | What's happening |
|---|---|---|
| Confident live person | 0.25–4 sec | A live person is confirmed and the call is routed to an agent right away |
| Answering machine | up to 5 sec | AMDY keeps listening for a machine's signature |
| Answering machine with leading silence | up to 8–10 sec | If the call starts with silence, that silence is set aside and the listening window is extended |
What this means in practice
- A short delay before a call reaches an agent is normal — AMDY is working during the first few seconds.
- A call that stays silent for more than about 5 seconds will almost always be classified as a machine, and won't reach an agent.
- A call that starts with silence may take 8–10 seconds — that is AMDY giving it extra time, not a fault.
A note on report status "A"
This is separate from AMDY's results. In VICIdial reports, status A means "answered by an agent." It is used when exporting calls for recording review — see Detection accuracy.
